Member of Polish Parliament, Przemysław Wipler, is Brutally Beaten by Police in Warsaw, Poland

On the 30th of October, 2013, member of Polish Parliament (Sejm) Przemysław Wipler was out celebrating the news of his wife becoming pregnant with their fifth child at the Enklawa club in Warszawa (Warsaw). He left down Mazowiecka street when a police car drove up and the police officers got out and accosted two men, attacking them with pepper spray. He had been on his way to the car when the incident took place. Przemysław, clearly confused and concerned at this seemingly unmotivated attack, moved to intervene when the cops attacked him also with pepper spray. Przemysław identified himself as a member of Parliament but to no avail. The police claim there were then provoked into into beating Przemysław with their nightsticks as he began attacxking them. At this point, plainclothes detectives also arrived on the scene and took all the men in where they were held in the “drunk tank” and portrayed to the media as having assaulted the policeman (Piotr Jakubowski) and the policewoman (Beata Jung) by kicking her and yelling obscenities at her (Poland does have an obscenity law although I don’t know if it’s still enforced).

This is all part of an elaborate smear campaign in which the President himself is involved. Coming on television to call Przemysław Wipler a “thug” as Przemysław has been outspoken with his knowledge of police corruption. Having been slammed by the media for being a “drunk”. He has launched a campaign to clear his name, even going so far as to call out then speaker of Sejm PM Ewa Kopacz for criminal negligence in her handling of the matter. He has since sided with the leader of the Congress for the New Right, Janusz Ryszard Korwin-Mikke who has earned the ire of mass media for a controversial statement in which he concluded that there is no written proof that Adolf Hitler was aware of any kind of holocaust. Mr. Wipler was eventually able to get released video of the incident but police have ruled that as far as determining which party was ultimately at fault, the video is inconclusive.
