Frighteningly, Mirgorod translates as “The Town of Peace”.
58 year old Vasil Treteckij (Василь Третецький), Chairman of the National Council of the town of Mirgorod in Ukraine was attacked by a group of three assailants who beat him, but were joined by a fourth who shot him with a rifle. Vasil Treteckij legally carried a handgun, but was overwhelmed by the assailants and never even got a chance to fire it. You can see the gun fall out of his hands at 10:14.
Man on a bicycle observed the entire attack from nearby and while it is understandable that he didn’t want to meddle with rifle armed attackers, the fact that he did fuck all even after the attackers left makes him a big fat coward.
During the attack, the chairman suffered severe wounds and lost a lot of blood. His blood pressure was 60/40 when medics got to him but as of this post, he’s still hanging in there (the attack took place on March 16, 2014). However, according to a vascular surgeon from Poltava Oblast Hospital, his leg may need to be amputated.
