Video from 2012 shows young Russian anti-drug activists (dealer hunters) attacking a car of a known drug dealer in Moscow. The dealer was so notorious, even the reporter knew this was the vehicle of a guy who sells what’s locally known as “spice”.
The vehicle seemed tough as hell, as if it was fortified, so despite several people working to smash it to bits, they only managed to ruin the paint job with red color and add a few large cracks to the windscreens. The vehicle (Lada Niva, I think) kept the dealers inside protected from the enraged crowd.
Although their original intent to take care of the societal plague seemed noble, the alleged anti drug activists lost me when they turned their anger on the reporter, whom they threatened with violence if he did not stop recording. The reporter was indeed eventually physically assaulted and had his microphone thrown away.
Notice the police who were on the scene, but did not interfere with the actions of the crowd. They probably knew the dealers were no saints so turned the blind eye to the actions of the mob, perhaps to let the dealers learn a lesson they couldn’t directly as public officials teach them themselves. Or perhaps they realized that drug dealers had connections so state justice would not touch them, which is why they allowed public justice to take its course.
On a second thought, I wonder if these so called activists were drug dealers themselves, attacking their rival under the guise of serving the pubic good, but really just wanting to get rid of competition.
