Saratoga Deputy Slaps Citizen for Not Giving Consent to Search His Car

While the above quote may sound funny and would be funny if it was from a movie or some other fictitious account, when it’s used to intimidate, harass, and verbally abuse a citizen by a cop who’s clearly used to, and enjoying the position of power which allows him to terrorize citizens with impunity, it’s really not funny.

As Sgt. Shawn Glans bullied and terrorized the citizen for not giving consent to search his car, the man’s friend turned on the camera on his smart phone and held the phone in his hand as if it was just the phone he was holding on to cause he had nowhere else to put it. Sgt. Shawn Glans didn’t know the encounter was being recorded so he was being his normal, abusive, self entitled self. And this is why you should always film something, if you see something.

The incident happened in Halfmoon, New York. Although the pair broke no laws, Sgt. Glans confronted them because he allegedly saw them walk out of nearby wooded area toward their vehicle, which was in the parking lot of a business. The cop also said he noticed a .22-caliber rifle on the back seat.

As the citizen stood his ground and refused to surrender his constitutional right to freedom from unreasonable search, the deputy got more aggressive and threatening. At one point, he appears to deliver a slap to the citizen. The slap itself was not caught on the video, but the sound and the movement of the deputy’s body tell the whole story.

If the video was not filmed, Sgt. Glans would get away with it, just as he got away with paralyzing and blinding a man by crashing into his car head on going almost triple the speed limit in 1997. But because the video evidence was recorded, the Saratoga County Sheriff suspected the deputy without pay pending “internal investigation“. This basically means that instead of firing the abuser and charging him with battery, first degree strong arm robbery, harassment, abuse of power and assault with a deadly weapon (while he didn’t draw his gun, he had it on him), sheriff just pulled the old trick to shut everybody up while the topic is hot, but intends to reinstate his buddy with backpay when the public refocuses on something else.

And traditionally, cop’s partner, who should likewise be arrested for complicity, does not receive any punishment at all. About time the bystander cops, to whom the cop apologists refer as “good cops“, start getting called on their crimes too, cause this is what happens when you call the cops.

Sgt. Glans went to publicly defend his action by stating that:

I was concerned. It was a public safety issue. If I had to do it all over again … I’d probably do the same thing. If I knew the camera was there, no, because it does look bad.

So basically he’s saying that yes, he’d break the law again, and terrorize any citizen again, but only if he wouldn’t get caught.

His wife then tried to publicly defend him too by stating that:

What my husband did and how he reacted wasn’t the correct way to do it, but there were circumstances that came about beforehand… “He’s had a very hard year.

But you know guys, my husband assaulted a civilian who broke no law, but he’s had a very hard year, so that makes this all OK. Let’s forgive and forget, just like the cops forgave and forgot all those people they arrested who were also having tough years and were also under stress. Just because a cop has to deal with life like the rest of us, should it be treated as a green light to harass, threaten, intimidate, violate rights, break laws, and fuck up other people’s lives?

Would the citizen be charged if he slapped the cop and verbally assaulted him afterwards? Then the cops should be too and twice as harshly if he does it while on duty. Thanks to cell phone cameras, these psychopaths are finally getting outed for the bullies that they are. For decades and decades they have gotten away with behavior like this all the while promoting themselves as the paragons of justice. If this had not been filmed, Sgt. Glans (literally a Dickhead) would still be terrorizing citizens today on the public payroll. As are thousands of other psychopaths because they have not been filmed. Yet!
